Where is Mallorca?
Before diving into all the details to help you plan your Mallorca elopement, letโs start with a quick geography lesson. Mallorca is the largest island in Spainโs Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean Sea. Itโs part of Spain and sits off the eastern coast of the mainland, near Barcelona and Valencia. Mallorca is a Mediterranean paradise that feels like a world of its own, yet it's incredibly accessible from many European cities and the US if you donโt mind an excitingly long travel day.
How to get to Mallorca
Mallorca is well-connected to the rest of Europe, and thereโs one main international airport that serves the island:
Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI)
This airport is located near the island's capital, Palma, and handles the majority of international flights, making it the best choice for most travelers. It's an easy and convenient airport to fly into, with regular connections from major cities across Europe. Depending on where you plan to elope, Palma is central and makes accessing the islandโs incredible locations seamless. Iโll provide specific details on which areas of the island to explore, and the easiest routes to get there!
HOW TO TRAVEL AROUND MALLORCA
When it comes to exploring Mallorca, I highly recommend traveling by car. This way, youโll have the freedom to discover the island at your own pace without relying on public transportation. With stunning coastal roads, charming villages, and breathtaking views, youโll want the flexibility to stop wherever your heart desires. You have a couple of options for getting around: you can either rent your own car or hire a private driver.
How to Travel Around Mallorca
If you choose to rent a car and drive around Mallorca, here are some important things to keep in mind:
Driverโs License: If you hold a US, Canada, or EU driverโs license, you can drive in Mallorca without needing an International Driverโs Permit. Honestly, when we traveled to Mallorca, we didnโt have a permit and we were fine.
Insurance Requirements: Make sure to have third-party insurance to rent a car. Credit card insurance may not be sufficient.
Driving Rules: In Mallorca, they drive on the right side of the road, which is similar to most countries.
Automatic vs. Manual: While many rental cars are automatic, itโs wise to confirm when booking, especially if you prefer driving an automatic.
Rural Areas: Much of Mallorca is rural, so keep an eye out for local wildlife and be prepared for slow-moving farm vehicles, especially in the countryside.

How to PLan a Magical Mallorca Elopement
Itโs a much easier process than one might think. And if youโre not the planning type, we have connections to an on-the-ground elopement planner in Spain.
1) Pick a time frame
Weโd recommend eloping in Mallorca in either May or September. June-August can be too busy, too hot, and too crowded. When we worked in Mallorca, we went in early September and it was PERFECT. The island usually doesnโt open up well until late April.
2) Book your photographer, officiant, and other travel plans
Once youโve picked a time frame, start researching your vendors. For most folks, booking their ideal photographer is usually first on the list. Of course, Iโd be thrilled to photograph your elopement in Mallorca. but if definitely do your research on a photographer whoโs style aligns most with what youโre looking for. Once your main vendors are secured, book your accommodations and flights next.
3) Purchase wedding clothes, rings, etc.
Ah shopping! Honestly one of the funnest parts of getting married. Depending on how much time you have until your adventure departs, you may need to purchase something off the rack or online. I have a handy list of places to shop online if youโre in a hurry. Some fun advice, you can wear whatever you want! If itโs a blue dress, or chic pant suit, you can toss tradition out the window if thatโs your style. Pro-tip, if you choose a wedding dress, opt for something more modern and fashion-forward to fit the magic of Mallorca.
4) Finalize and Prep
As it gets closer, youโll need to start thinking of your day-of plans and full trip itinerary. Luckily for you, if you a hire a photographer who also doubles as a planning guide, you may not have to do any heavy lifting. Some things youโll need to consider for the day-of is what time is sunset, what time do local restaurants close, what time should hair and makeup be finished, etc.
5) Elope!
Now for the best part. You wake up on your elopement day with the only thing on your to-do list is to have fun and get married. No awkward traditions, no guest list, no nonsense. Just adventure and love.
What is the Best Month to Elope in Mallorca?

Eloping in Mallorca in May:
May in Mallorca is the perfect time to elope if you want a mild Mediterranean climate and lush spring blooms. The island is less crowded, with beautiful wildflowers dotting the countryside and beaches that feel like your own private getaway. The days are warm, with sunsets that cast a golden glow over the sea, ideal for capturing stunning photos.

Mallorcaโs beauty is diverse, from its turquoise waters to rugged mountains. While there are endless spots to choose from, here are some of our favorite iconic places to elope and photograph in Mallorca.
1. Mediterranean Finca Elopements

2. Clifftop Ceremonies at Cap de Formentor
Cap de Formentor, the northernmost point of Mallorca, offers jaw-dropping views over the sea from its towering cliffs. Itโs one of the islandโs most iconic spots and makes for an unforgettable elopement setting. The sunset views here are especially magical. Iโm not going to lie, I would do LOTS of research before opting for this location. When I was planning an elopement in Mallorca for one of my 2024 couples, I discovered that no private cars are allowed on the road from June-September. Which means only public transportation. If you know Spain, you may know that their amenities are not always reliable or punctual. Just a fair warning here, but with the right planning, the best sunset views in Mallorca could be had on your elopement day!
